The beginner's guide to Sumerian mythology that's perfect for both casual and academic use. It's written such that anyone can pick it up and start reading, even those who know nothing of Sumer or mythology. The first section uses a cheeky tone to teach a little about the lives and worldviews of the Sumerian people. The next section has short versions of most existing myths rewritten to be easy to read without losing vital information. Finally, the back contains an appendix of important characters, places, creatures, and objects.

-Great for supplementing a student's education.

-Contains cheat sheets of important characters and places that provide short descriptions to help refresh your memory.

-Includes 26 stories.

-Introduction uses a quirky tone to make it fun to learn those less exciting parts like setting and religious worldview.

-Appendix includes detailed descriptions of important characters, places, objects, and creatures.

-Like most mythology, this is not recommended for young children due to sex and violence.

This book is for "academics" if (a) you spend most of your waking hours on social media, (b) your "academics" principally consist of fighting with your parents about doing your homework and trying not to have to listen to your 4th grade teacher, and/or (c) your vocabulary never made it past the 3rd grade.

If, like me, you are looking for a decent book on Sumerian mythology, DO NOT BUY THIS. I was misled by the description, and as soon as I started reading I had to put it down and imagine ways I could get my $8 worth of fun by destroying it.

Perhaps the most annoying part for me was the author's voice, which makes him sound like he wants to be the cool teenager on the block who "knows things" but still wants to sound cool. An example:
"Only a handful of important humans show up in Sumerian mythology... It's a little hard to get your name remembered when someone who lives forever is blowing up mountains."
Though designed to "spice up" the book and make the ancient mythology a little easier to digest, its highly misleading and un-academic writing that gets handed to tge reader in a matter-of-fact manner.

Legends of Sumer eBook Kezip Macleod Reviews

Amazing. Just finished this book it is exactly what I wanted. Tons of information on the Gods, Summeria,. Its a MUST have book.
I love this book! I wanted to learn more about Sumerian mythology and found this book on . Some of the Sumerian names are hard to remember, so it was really helpful to have the "cheatsheets" as a reference while I was reading the stories. The stories themselves were easy to read and follow, and were very enjoyable. I wish more mythology books were written this way. I highly recommend you try this book, whether you are a mythology nut or just want to learn a little more about Sumer.
For such boring subject matter its well written and an easy read. I thought it was "Legends of Summer" about John Mellencamp or Bruce Springsteen or something. Not the beach read I was hoping for but I learned something.
Very good.

Original and unique story telling.
Great read into Sumerian mythology!
It reads like a high school kid wrote it. Provides basic info and stories but is written very poorly.
Supplies context to the Sumerian myths that is normally lacking. Readable and informative, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
True work interchange, co-worker starts conversation on lost cities near fertile crescent.
Co-worker "... the two cities were fighting over the favor of some god."
Me "Inanna?"
Co-worker "YES! That was her!"
We discuss history a lot now.
