Can they walk through the doors God opens for them and allow forgiveness to restore what was taken so long ago?

Marriage was forever, at least that was what Emma thought, but an unfortunate turn of events brought her world crashing in around her. Determination to make a good life for her three children spur her to push through the pain of rejection and loneliness she battles. A chance meeting with a disfigured handyman sparks an unusual friendship that turns into more. The only thing holding her back is the memory of her past and what should have been.

His body’s disfigurement and self-torment keep David living in the shadows of society.
After spending time with Emma and her children, he begins to hope for something he knows he doesn’t deserve. Unwilling to listen to the self-doubt, he hatches a plan to put right what was wrong in his life. If only she would let him in.

What God Brings Together Promises from Above Book 1 edition by Melissa Wardwell Religion Spirituality eBooks

It took me months to finish this book. It wasn't bad but it wasn't compelling, either. I read it on my Kindle for PC app and I found myself reaching for a print book more often than heading for my laptop when I wanted to read. I appreciated that this is a Christian book with Christian values. The characters pray and attend church services, the dialog is clean and the sexual references are limited to kissing.
The actions of the lead male, Ryan, made no sense to me, however. I was married to my husband for only six months when I became a quadriplegic and we are now 2 1/2 years away from our 50 year anniversary. To me, Ryan's reasons for separating himself from his family seemed more rooted in self-pity and over-dramatization than anything else. He made a unilateral decision about his marriage that he should have made in consultation with his wife.
Just because I wouldn't want a reader who is still of an age to be easily influenced to think that this is a reasonable course of action when hardships hit a marriage, I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone under the age of 20. Also, the book needs to be proofread. About 1/3 of the way through the book I started to keep track of the errors and I had 50 by the time I finished. There were numerous punctuation errors, misspellings, wrong word usages like passed instead of past, etc.

What God Brings Together Promises from Above Book 1 edition by Melissa Wardwell Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

This was the first book by this author that I read and I'm so glad I found it. Emma and Ryan were high school sweethearts, who had gotten married and started a family. One tragic day changed their lives, but with the Lord, prayer, love, forgiveness and second chances this author has brought a wonderful love story for those who believe. I really enjoyed this story. The characters and the plot kept me reading.
I was drawn to this book because of the cover, title and premise of the book. The plotline was unique, and I found the H/ h relatable and easy to identity with and like. I think this is a good book that has the potential to be a great book. I do think the author needs to polish it up some. I don't say this lightly because you can tell she put her heart in it. But I do think the dialogue didn't flow in a natural way in parts of the book, and I think the plot was disjointed in parts. If the author could edit some more it would be a great book of Karen Kingsbury quality. I loved the faith element and the way our hero came to terms with his disfigurement and his great love for his family. It did remind me of beauty and the beast, which I love. 4 star read with potential of being 5 star.
Well written and clean. Even though I find it hard to believe that Ryan would stay away for 8+ years - because of the scars -
Plus it did seem odd that Emma did not realize who the scarred David was - yet his sister & her father did immediately.
this is after all Fiction -- Yet it does have a good story.
-------- BUT the important thing I got from this book - is that outward beauty is not much compared to the inner beauty of a person.-- something his kids realized right off, even when they just thought of him as a friend. --------
I was touched by this story of faith, mercy, and second chances. Ryan is given a chance to right a wrong and be reunited with his family. Truly a perfect example of how you can run but you cannot hide from God. Ryan took matters into his own hands and made decisions for his family that ripped them apart. In one split second, his world is changed, scarred, lost. But the worst decision he made was to cut his family out of his life. Emma was blindsided and abandoned. Her ability to trust in God and keep moving forward one day at a time was an inspiration to me. I believe that children are quick to forgive and easy to love. This is a clean, sweet, compassionate story of enduring love.
Emma has been a single mom for 8 years since her husband Ryan had a bad accident and opted to divorce and disappear; she returns to her hometown, where she meets David, a man who reminds her of Ryan.

Best bits Huge lesson in forgiveness here. Also, Emma struggles with what to do until she is reminded to pray about it; she finds peace and direction in God's will for her and her family. Her glad anger at Ryan is confusing, yet believable. She and her kids don't seem to see his very scarred face, much to his surprise. Ryan also learns to trust in God's direction rather than his own human understanding; if he had done that in the first place, the years of struggling apart would not have happened. The story is told very well.

Issues A ridiculous number of typos, mostly punctuation errors and errors in sentence structure. Someone really needs to go through sentence by sentence to proof this. If it was polished a bit better, it could be excellent.
